The treadmill says zero.
Your legs disagree.

Put your iPhone in your pocket and walk. Stepper Pro reads the rhythm of your stride through the motion sensors and counts every step you actually take — even when the treadmill's console is stuck at zero and your watch thinks you're standing still.

The story behind Stepper Pro

Stepper Pro exists because gym treadmills are bad at counting, and the alternatives wanted my life story first.

Walking on a treadmill is the one kind of walking where your body barely moves through space. The belt goes backward, you stay put — and that is exactly the pattern most step counters are built to ignore. They are tuned to be conservative outdoors, so they filter out the steady, uniform gait of a treadmill and quietly undercount it. Meanwhile every fitness app I tried wanted an account, an email, a subscription, and permission to sync my movement to somebody else's server.

So I wrote the counter I wanted: it assumes that when you press play, you are walking, and then it counts your gait honestly. It runs entirely on the phone in your pocket. There is no account, no server, and nothing to cancel — because there is nothing to sell.

What it does

Counts treadmill steps Tuned for the uniform gait of a moving belt — the exact rhythm generic step counters filter out and undercount.
Pocket, any angle The detector works on the magnitude of your movement, not on one axis, so it doesn't care how the phone is turned.
Live count, big and readable One enormous number on a progress ring, with time and cadence underneath. Glanceable while you're moving.
Treadmill or street, it can tell With optional Location access, Stepper Pro notices whether your steps are actually taking you anywhere. Outdoors it measures your distance and draws your route on a map. Say no, and it's still the same treadmill counter.
History of your walks Pause, resume, then save or discard. Every saved walk keeps its steps, duration and average cadence — plus distance and route if you were outdoors. Swipe to delete anything.
Nothing leaves your phone No servers, no cloud, no accounts, no analytics, no ads. Your walks and routes are saved only on your iPhone, and the app makes no network requests of its own.
100% free. Forever.

Stepper Pro has no subscription, no In-App Purchases, no ads, no paywall. You download it, you use it, you keep it. If you ever want to support the work, email me — that's enough.

Fitness app, not a medical device Stepper Pro counts steps for your own reference. It does not diagnose, treat, or monitor any medical condition, and its step counts and distances are estimates rather than clinical measurements. If you have a health condition that affects walking or exercise, please talk to a licensed physician before starting or changing a routine.
