Breadcrumb is an iOS application that records the path you walk so you can retrace it later. When you start a trail, the App saves a series of positions — "crumbs" — roughly every ten metres, using the device's GPS receiver, and keeps recording while the phone is locked and in your pocket. When the satellite signal is blocked, typically under dense tree cover, the App estimates your movement from your step count and the compass heading and marks those crumbs as estimated. To return, you select a trail and the App displays an arrow pointing to the next crumb back, along with the distance to it, guiding you along your own recorded path. You can also mark forks, landmarks, hazards, and water sources by hand as you walk. The App stores everything locally, requires no account, and makes no network requests: it is designed to work where there is no cellular coverage and no internet.
We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use Breadcrumb on iOS devices you own or control, subject to these Terms and to Apple's Standard EULA.
Breadcrumb is free. The App contains no In-App Purchases, no subscriptions, no advertising, and no paid content. There is nothing to buy, nothing to cancel, and nothing to restore.
Breadcrumb does not require you to create an account or sign up. The App works immediately after installation without any login, email, or personal identifier.
See our Privacy Policy. In short: your trails, crumbs, and markers live on your device; we do not collect or transmit personal information; and the App makes no network requests at all. Location and motion data are used only on the device, only while a trail is being recorded or retraced, and are never transmitted.
Do not enter unfamiliar or remote terrain relying on Breadcrumb as your only means of finding your way back. Before you set out: check the weather and the route, carry a physical map and compass and know how to use them, start with a fully charged phone and ideally a power bank, and tell somebody your plan and expected return time. Carry appropriate water, clothing, and equipment for the environment.
The trail the App leads you back along is the path you already walked. It does not verify that the path is still safe or passable. Conditions change: a stream you crossed may rise, light fails, terrain that was manageable uphill may be hazardous in the other direction, and a route that was safe in daylight may not be at dusk. Use your own judgment at every step and do not follow the arrow into anything that looks dangerous.
If you become lost, injured, or in danger, contact the local emergency services by whatever means you have. Breadcrumb cannot contact anyone on your behalf and has no network capability whatsoever.
Positions are derived from the device's GPS receiver, whose accuracy varies with satellite reception, tree cover, terrain, steep valleys, buildings, weather, and the device itself. Under dense canopy or in a narrow valley the signal can degrade severely or be lost entirely.
When the signal is lost, the App estimates your position from your step count and compass heading. These estimated crumbs are inherently less accurate than measured ones, accumulate error the longer the signal is missing, and are marked as estimated in the App precisely so you can judge them accordingly. Compass headings can be disturbed by magnetic interference, including ferrous rock, metal structures, and the magnets in some phone accessories or cases.
If the App is closed, terminated, or stops running mid-walk — including when the battery dies — nothing records the ground you cover while it is not running. On resuming, the trail will jump from where recording stopped to where it resumed; when that jump is significant the App marks it as a gap, because the arrow will point straight across terrain you never walked and any fork inside that gap is invisible to it.
The Developer makes no representation that any recorded position, distance, direction, or guidance is exact, and disclaims any warranty of accuracy, completeness, or fitness for navigation.
Recording a trail requires continuous use of the device's GPS receiver and motion sensors, including while the App is in the background, which consumes battery substantially faster than an idle phone. You are responsible for monitoring your own battery level and for ensuring you have enough charge to complete your walk and retrace your route. A phone that runs out of battery cannot lead you anywhere. The Developer is not responsible for battery wear, reduced battery life, loss of power, or any hardware effect caused by extended use.
Do not walk while staring at the screen. Look at the arrow, then look at where you are putting your feet. You are responsible for your own safety, your footing, and your awareness of your surroundings at all times. The Developer is not responsible for damage to or loss of your device, including from drops, water, or weather.
Breadcrumb, its code, design, interface, text, and brand are the property of Ingeniería.dev and are protected by Mexican and international intellectual property laws. These Terms do not transfer any ownership to you — only a license to use the App. Your recorded trails remain your property; the Developer has no access to them.
The App is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE", without any express or implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, positional or directional accuracy, or uninterrupted operation.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Developer shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, nor for any health, physical, financial, personal, or property loss arising from your use of or inability to use the App, from any inaccuracy in a recorded trail or in the guidance given, or from any action taken or not taken based on the App's output — including becoming lost, injured, or stranded. The Developer's aggregate liability shall not exceed USD $50.
You agree to indemnify and hold the Developer harmless from any claims arising from: (a) your improper use of the App, (b) injury, loss, or expense sustained outdoors, including any search or rescue operation, (c) your violation of these Terms, or (d) your violation of third-party rights.
We may suspend or terminate your license if you breach these Terms. You may terminate this license at any time by uninstalling the App.
We may update these Terms from time to time. The current version will always be published at this URL, along with the date of the update. Continued use of the App after an update constitutes your acceptance. Material changes will also be announced inside the App.
Apple Inc. is not a party to this agreement and is not responsible for the App or its content. In the event of a conflict between these Terms and Apple's Standard EULA, the terms more restrictive and applicable to Apple under the App Store Review Guidelines shall prevail.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United Mexican States. Any dispute shall be submitted to the competent courts of Mexico City, and both parties expressly waive any other jurisdiction that might otherwise apply based on current or future domicile.
If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
