Look & Talk was built because assistive technology should never be locked behind a paywall.

Friends in the blind and low-vision community kept telling me the same thing: the apps that read printed text, describe a room, magnify a label, or identify a color charge $10–20 a month, ask for an email, and quietly upload images of medication bottles, receipts, and personal documents to servers somewhere overseas. The trade was always the same — give us your private photos, and we'll tell you what's in them.

I said no. Then I built Look & Talk — an iPhone assistive app where every recognition, every description, every magnification happens on-device using Apple's Vision and Foundation Models. The camera frame never leaves your iPhone. It's free because reading the world should not be a subscription.

What it does

OCR — read any printed text Point the camera at a menu, mail, a label, a sign. Look & Talk reads it aloud through VoiceOver, in real time, on-device using Apple Vision.

Describer — what is in front of me? Capture a scene and Look & Talk describes objects, people, layout, and surroundings using Apple Foundation Models. No image leaves the phone.

Magnifier — zoom and stabilize Live high-contrast magnifier with freeze-frame, color filters, and torch. Designed for low-vision users reading prescriptions, ingredient lists, or fine print.

Color detector Aim at clothing, a paint sample, a button. Look & Talk announces the color name in your language, instantly, on-device.

History — review what you read Every recognition is saved locally with SwiftData so you can revisit it later. Delete any entry with a swipe; uninstall the app and history vanishes.

Your data stays with you Zero servers. Zero cloud. Zero tracking. Zero accounts. Zero third-party AI providers. Everything runs on your iPhone — full stop.
