The story behind NetReveal
NetReveal was born in an Airbnb living room at 1 a.m.
A smoke detector with a tiny black dot in the middle. A clock on the wall pointing exactly at the bed. A power strip with a USB port that didn't power anything. I had read enough horror stories about hidden cameras in short-term rentals to know I wasn't being paranoid — but I had no way to confirm what was actually on the network.
The apps I tried wanted accounts, sold premium tiers, or hid the actually useful information behind a paywall. I just wanted to see, in plain English, what every device on this Wi-Fi was — and whether any of them looked like a camera. So I built it.
What it does
Scan the whole Wi-Fi in seconds
mDNS/Bonjour discovery across 19 service types plus a TCP probe of the full /24 subnet. Cameras, printers, computers, NAS, routers — every device gets a name, an IP, a MAC, and a vendor.
Spot hidden cameras and microphones
Devices that look like spy cameras — RTSP ports, Hikvision/Dahua/XMeye signatures, suspicious vendor OUIs — surface with a red banner on the Home screen. No false sense of security, just an honest heuristic.
Bluetooth scan too
Discovers nearby BLE devices: smart bulbs, plugs, headphones, AirTags, fitness trackers, and any unknown gadget within range. Helpful when the suspicious device isn't on the Wi-Fi.
Honest confidence labels
Each device shows how sure we are: high (multiple signals agree), medium (one strong signal), low (only a hostname or generic port), suspicious (red — possible camera). No magic, no hidden ranking.
Zero backend, zero login, zero data
Nothing leaves your iPhone. No account, no email, no analytics, no third-party SDKs. The scan results live only in RAM and disappear when you close the App.

Detection tool, not a guarantee
NetReveal helps you spot devices that look like cameras, microphones, or trackers based on network signatures. It is not a certified counter-surveillance tool. Devices that are powered off, not connected to the local Wi-Fi, hidden on a separate network, or using non-standard protocols may not be detected. Always combine with a visual sweep of the room.
